Our old farmhouse
We have an old New England Farmhouse with an attached barn

Stored in our old barn

Today I decided to start taking inventory of things I have stored in our old barn.  Through the years I have collected many old and primitive items with the thought of refinishing or restoring them.  I have put some things to good use and sold some things on ebay, but I still have many items.  My youngest Grandson has started to show an interest in some of the old things, so some things will be passed down to him.

Our old barn was at one time a workshop and gift barn that my husband and I ran.  Many years ago we decided to close the business and parts of the barn are frozen in time.

I designed and painted this wall hanging angel.
This angel now hangs in a bedroom - it is a pleasant memory of our past business

This is an old antique wringer that was used on wash day, some pieces are missing but it is an interesting part of yesterday. This old piece was hidden under my husbands table saw.

This is a handmade birdhouse, made by a retired man who lived in Winthrop
We use to sell these birdhouses for him.
Nice memories of days gone by

Another birdhouse - this one is made of cedar

These are a few old farm pulleys we have collected through the years, my Grandson likes the old pulleys, so we are giving them to him for his collection

I just love this old hand crafted apothecary cabinet with the finger jointed drawers.  The cabinet was never completed or finished.  It was my intentions to complete the job....maybe one day I will get around to it.
Well, Thank you for stopping by my blog and looking inside the barn.  I know there are still so many special things.  I just love old things and I especially enjoy preserving them for the next generation.

Old Collectibles Listed On Ebay
I love unique collectibles - as I travel through Maine, I am always looking for interesting items.

I like the old wine bottles that are covered in wicker

The top wicker bottle has lost its cork but the condition of the wicker is still very good
The bottom bottle is done in a light wicker - it still has its cork
Both bottle have carry handles
They look great on the stairs as an accent piece

When you display them in a pair they look great
Years ago they use to put candles in the spout to use as rustic candle holders
I will be listing these bottles on ebay

The next collectible item I would like to show you is an old farm bug/crop sprayer
It would look so nice as an accent piece either inside or outside your house
You can display it on a shed or in the garden.
This sprayer is very large and has the original patina
I found this at a barn sale in Augusta, Maine
This will also be listed on ebay

These are nice old or vintage items that are nice to pass down to the next generation before they are all gone.  So look around in your travels for things that are interesting and are no longer available - they make interesting collectibles.

When will spring be here?

This week it has been windy and cold and spring seems like it just can't get started so today I fixed an arrangement in a firkin I will be listing on ebay to give a bright happy spring look to the house.  Even though the ivy and flowers are artificial it still has a bright happy look.

One of my new listings

This handy shelf/bench has a pull out drawer for storage.  The bench is hand crafted.

Spring is coming

I am so happy spring is on its way.  This year we did get a lot of snow.  Hopefully we will have a beautiful spring and an awesome summer.  We can hope.

I have been busy painting and preparing items to sell on ebay.  I just finished this beautiful firkin bucket on legs, it makes a nice side table with storage.
This firkin has a swing handle & metal bands

This useful old wood sleeve board has been re-purposed  into a kitchen rack to store your old rolling
pins, cutting boards and wood bowls.

Old Crates & Shipping Boxes
The old crate or shipping box was so useful many years ago.  After an item was shipped, the box was used around the farm or homestead for other things.  These old boxes & crates are becoming harder to find since many end up in landfills.  I enjoy re-purposing these old crate so they can be used in useful ways around the house.  When they are in bad condition we do make repairs & even paint them.  The important thing is that they are kept for future generations to enjoy.  The old primitive and antique items I collect and sell is a reflection of our past and I enjoy passing these things on to the next generation.  Once these old items are gone they will never be reproduced and they will be lost for ever.

Check out my ebay listings for crates -  old boxes - and other old & vintage items

These are just a few of the crates & boxes I have sold on ebay
We added a shelf to the inside of this old crate to make a useful cupboard

This was a salesman case with a leather handle and I re-purposed into a display cabinet for the wall

So, when going to yards sales or flea markets look for an old box or crate and give it a new purpose.

 Look for me on ebay

I just love to re-purpose or re-finish items so they can be used and passed down to the next generation.  Many of these items are no longer made and once they are gone they can never be replace.  I enjoy giving them new meaning and use.  The old vintage items make great accent pieces with any decor.

Newly Painted Firkin
This Newly painted firkin / sugar bucket was bought at a local flea market.  It was missing the lid and it showed ware with nicks and dings.  My husband made a new lid for it and now it makes an ideal side table.  Great for storage.  It can be used with any decor as an accent piece.  The newly painted surface has been given an aged look.  The swing handle and wood bands are still in excellent condition on this vintage firkin.  I will be listing this on ebay.

Quick & Easy Teriyaki Chicken

Made with Knorr Sides

Today I would like to share an easy recipe for making Teriyaki Chicken

It is quick and easy and the left overs are great.

All you need is 1 Boneless Chicken Breast 1 package of stir fry vegetables, 1 package of Knorr's Teriyaki Noodles

Ingredients

1 Boneless Chicken Breast cut up into bite size pieces
1/4 Cup of fresh onion
1 1lb package of Stir Fry Vegetables
1 Package of Knorr Sides - cooking instructions are on the package

Saute the chopped onions & bite size pieces of chicken in oil
Cook until chicken is no longer pink
Saute on low heat

Now add the stir fry vegetable to the sauteed chicken  - I add a few drops of soy sauce to the chicken and vegetables - I saute the chicken and vegetables for approximately 15 minutes

While chicken and vegetables are cooking start  preparing  the teriyaki noodles
I prefer using the microwave directions

When the noodles are done I add the stir fry vegetables & chicken to the teriyaki noodles and stir all ingredients mixing well  -  then pop them in the  microwave for another 3 minutes.

It is now ready to serve
Quick & easy and a nice flavor

Today I would like to share another recipe with you -

It is similar to a Sheppard's Pie, but I made it with chicken & instant mashed potatoes to make it quick and easy to prepare.

Chicken & Mashed Potato Casserole

1/2 Cup Chopped Onion
2 Cups Frozen Mixed Vegetables

Velveeta Cheese
Dry Bread stuffing is used for a topping

Rinse chicken and cut up into small bite size pieces
Sprinkle them with flour,  salt & pepper and mix it into the chicken
Saute the chicken pieces & onion into a table spoon of oil
When the onions and chicken have a nice color add the frozen mixed vegetables and granulated garlic,  continue to saute for about 10 minutes
Then add 2 TBS of flour and mix it into the mixed vegetable now add the cup of water and a bullion cube and simmer until the gravy thickens
Turn the pot off
In a casserole dish prepare instant mashed potatoes follow package directions
Add a slice of cheese to the hot potatoes so it will melt in the hot water

Push the mashed potatoes to the sides leaving the center of the dish empty
Now, pour in your chicken mixture

Put slices of  Velveeta cheese around the dish - add dry bread stuffing on top of the cheese

Bake at 375  for 20 minutes
When ready, the cheese will be melted and ready to serve

Enjoying a snowy day

Today when we woke up it was cold and snowing so I decided to make a hot pot of soup for our lunch.  While my husband brought in some wood for the wood stove  and plowed our drive way I started putting together the soup.
Both my husband and I love soup and the leftovers are great for him to take for lunch during the week.

Today I will be making a split pea soup with potatoes and hotdogs in my crock pots

Recipe for Split Pea Soup with Potato & Hotdogs

2 chicken bullion cubes
4 cups water
1/2 tsp black pepper
2/3 cup of onions
sauteed  onions in a TBS of oil

Add the above ingredients into your 4 qt crock pot

Cook for 31/2  hours on high

add 1 cup frozen southern hash brown style potatoes
1 can of cream of potato soup
4 hotdogs cut into small pieces
Today I used Jalapeno Hotdogs   (optional - use the hotdogs your family prefers)

Happy New Year

Today I am going to list a few things on ebay that have been re-purposed.  I am from the generation of people who were taught "waste not want not"  - sometimes you can find a new purpose for items you would be discarding.  To find a new purpose for an item rescues it from a land fill and gives it a new look and use - many of these items can never be replaced since we live in a plastic society and things are made to be easily discard.  To save these things and recycle them helps us to preserve our past.

This old scoop was purchased this way.  A farmer apparently needed a grain scoop and made it using the bottom basket of a hanging produce scale.  He used old wood for the cross handle.  I purchased this scoop in this condition - I made no changes.  The scoop has some rusted areas and the original patina.

This is an old doll cradle with a rich old patina.  The cradle was handmade many years ago and the rockers have been removed.  When I saw it at a local flea market I thought it would make a great trough for the center of the table.  I am including 4 painted bowls.

I found this old piece of farm equipment - I have no idea what it was used for - it is in the condition I found it with the rusted patina and the broken pipe.  When I saw it I just knew it would make a nice soap dish.  It would look nice in the garden or in the house.  The broken pipe has a hook shape making it nice to hang from a barrel.  It does have weight.
